Watch: A ‘cold lap’ around Watkins Glen International

Whenever a NASCAR track gets blanketed by snowfall, they deliver obligatory pictures of the sight.

But one track has gone the extra mile.

Watkins Glen International wanted to have some fun.

The track in Watkins Glen, New York, teamed up with Zippo to produce “Cold Lap @WGI.” They put video cameras on a jeep and truck and recorded them speeding around the 2.45-mile track.

It’s not a Cup car, but it’ll have to do. Watch it below.

A week ago Charlotte Motor Speedway announced an open test for the Camping World Truck Series today.

It was quickly postponed to Jan. 24.

The cause? The first snowstorm of the year in North Carolina.

That means it’s time for obligatory shots of a snow-covered race track and team shops.

Before we get started, Cole Pearn, the Canadian crew chief for Martin Truex Jr,. thinks all the excitement over a little snow is adorable.

First up is a bird’s-eye view of Charlotte Motor Speedway. After that, teams like Hendrick Motorsports and Team Penske tweeted proof there’s no such thing as a snow day in NASCAR. Also, Daniel Suarez and Dale Earnhardt Jr. each got into a bit of a jam while driving.

“Thunder Valley” has been briefly turned into “Snow Valley.”

Snow has covered the area surrounding Bristol Motor Speedway, which is located in Northeast Tennessee.

A photo has been shared on Reddit by a user named ghawk15, who lives in Southwestern Virginia near the track.

The photo overlooks the valley in which the half-mile track is nestled, right next to a range of mountains.

Bristol has a history with snow. In 2006, a Xfinity Series race was delayed due to a snow storm.

Bristol isn’t the only track hit by snow in the last year. Pocono Raceway, Chicagoland Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway had pictures taken of them after getting a fair share of snow dumped on their respective facilities.

The start of the NASCAR season is still over a month away but there was a different kind of excitement taking over NASCAR nation Saturday.

A winter storm blanketed some of the East Coast, including parts of North Carolina inhabited by NASCAR drivers, crew chiefs, and many others. Which means it didn’t take long for snow day pictures to start surfacing on social media.

Side note: Props to Logano and company for including one of the partners on his No. 22 Ford, Coca-Cola.

While most of the NASCAR community was enjoying the snow, a few did escape to warmer parts to take care of some important business: Getting married.

Also tying the knot is 2004 Cup champion Kurt Busch and Ashley Van Metre.

Back in January we brought you pictures of Pocono Raceway covered in a deep snowfall following winter storm Jonas.

Now two other northern tracks have gotten the snow treatment.

New Hampshire Motor Speedway, located in Loudon, New Hampshire, and Chicagoland Speedway have each posted pictures and video of their facilities enjoying a good white coating. Any guesses how fast a snowmobile could get around each track?
