NASCAR issued two practice holds today for Cup Series practice on the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
The No. 00 Chevrolet of Landon Cassill and the No. 51 Chevrolet of Stanton Barrett will have to sit out the last 15 minutes of final practice for being late to prerace inspection.
NASCAR has also designated the first 10 minutes of final practice for restart practice.
The day’s first practice session is scheduled for 11:05 – 11:50 a.m. ET (NBC Sports App).
Final practice is scheduled for 1:30 – 2:20 p.m. (CNBC).
BRISTOL, Tenn. — NASCAR announced Friday morning that Daniel Suarez, Ryan Newman, David Ragan and Bubba Wallace will be held out of the last 15 minutes of the first Cup practice.
The drivers’ cars failed prerace inspection twice at Michigan International Speedway.
The first practice for Saturday night’s Food City 500 begins at 10:35 a.m. and runs through 11:55.
Qualifying for the race is at 5:40 p.m.
Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, William Byron, Chris Buescher and BJ McLeod will be held out of the final 15 minutes are Saturday’s first Cup practice at Pocono Raceway.
The 50-minute session on the 2.5-mile track will begin at 9 a.m., the first of two practices Saturday at Pocono for Sunday’s race. The five drivers are being penalized because their cars failed prerace inspection twice at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Reed Sorenson and Timmy Hill also will be held from the final 15 minutes for being late to prequalifying inspection at Chicagoland Speedway last month.
Under a new qualifying schedule being used at a few races this season (most recently at Chicagoland), Cup Series cars won’t be inspected prior to Cup qualifying at 4:10 p.m. Saturday.
Prerace inspection will occur directly after qualifying ends at Pocono, and any cars that fail will have their qualifying times disallowed.
There are three practice holds for the Cup Series today at Pocono Raceway.
Derrike Cope and Cole Custer will serve 15 minute holds at the end of first practice for their teams being late to qualifying inspection.
Daniel Suarez will also serve a 15 minute hold at the end of final practice for failing qualifying inspection twice.
Five Cup teams will receive practice holds today during the final two practice sessions for the Coca-Cola 600.
JJ Yeley‘s team originally had a 15 minute hold in each session, the first for being late to qualifying inspection and the second for failing inspection twice.
Due to rain cancelling the first practice, Yeley will serve a 30 minute hold in final practice.
The teams of Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne and Parker Kligerman will also receive 15 minute holds in final practice for failing inspection twice.
Kevin Harvick has a 30 minute hold in final practice for failing qualifying inspection three times.
Harvick will start from the rear Sunday and his car chief was ejected for the remainder of the race weekend.
