NASCAR docks seven Cup cars practice time at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – Martin Truex Jr. and Daniel Suarez will be penalized 30 minutes each in the first practice Friday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for inspection issues last weekend at Indianapolis. They are among seven Cup cars that will be penalized.

Truex and Suarez are being docked practice time for failing pre-race inspection three or more times at Indy.

The cars of Austin Dillon and Reed Sorenson will miss 15 minutes each in the first practice for failing pre-race inspection. Dillon’s team failed it at Darlington and Sorenson’s team at Bristol.

Also missing 15 minutes of the first practice is Kyle Larson (late to inspection), B.J. McLeod (late to inspection) and Ross Chastain (missing the rookie meeting).

Opening Cup practice is from 2:05 – 2:55 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

In the Xfinity Series, two cars will be docked 30 minutes of practice in the first session and 10 cars will be docked 15 minutes each of the opening practice.

Penalized 30 minutes will be the teams of Brandon Jones and Spencer Gallagher for failing pre-race inspection three or more times.

Missing 15 minutes of Xfinity practice will be the teams of Matt Tifft, Justin Allgaier, Max Tullman, Joey Gase and David Starr for being late to inspection.

Missing 15 minutes of Xfinity practice for failing inspection twice are the teams of Ryan Truex, Ryan Preece, Austin Cindric and Ross Chastain.

Missing 15 minutes of Xfinity practice for inspection interference after a race is the team of Cole Custer.

Xfinity practice report at Iowa

FINAL PRACTICE

Making his first Xfinity start since 2012, Casey Roderick posted the fastest single lap in final practice for the U.S Cellular 250 at Iowa Speedway  with a speed of 131.617 mph.

He beat Justin Allgaier (131.464 mph) by .025 seconds.

Elliott Sadler (131.173), Shane Lee (131.070) and Kyle Benjamin (130.857) rounded out the top five.

John Hunter Nemechek spun off turn four early in practice without doing any significant damage, but he flattened three tires and needed to be taken off the track on a roll back.

Allgaier had the quickest 10-lap average of 129.936 mph. Benjamin, Daniel Hemric, Tyler Reddick and Brandon Jones rounded out the top five.

Making his first start in the Xfinity series, Max Tullman posted the most laps (27). He had the 17th fastest single lap of 129.635 mph, but was 19th among 20 drivers on the 10-lap chart (125.746).

FIRST PRACTICE

Sadler posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for the U.S Cellular 250 with a speed of 130.999 mph.

He narrowly edged Christopher Bell (130.993 mph) by .001 seconds.

Reddick (130.662), Hemric (130.646) and Allgaier (130.635) rounded out the top five.

Roderick (130.208) landed sixth on the chart.

With less than a minute remaining in this session, Reddick spun off turn four. He did minimal damage to his front splitter when he spun through the grass and back onto the pavement.

Austin Cindric (128.995) was the quickest among five drivers who ran 10 or more consecutive laps.

Preliminary entry lists for Pocono, Iowa

Cup and Camping World Truck teams will be in action this weekend at Pocono Raceway, while NASCAR Xfinity teams will be at Iowa Speedway.

Here are the preliminary entry lists for each event:

Cup – Gander Outdoors 400 (2:30 p.m. ET Sunday on NBCSN)

Thirty-nine cars are entered for the race at Pocono Raceway.

Reed Sorenson is listed in the No. 7. Ross Chastain is listed in the No. 15. JJ Yeley is listed in the No. 23. BJ McLeod is listed in the No. 51. Timmy Hill is listed in the No. 66. Corey LaJoie is listed in the No. 72. Kyle Weatherman is listed in the No. 99.

Xfinity – U.S. Cellular 250 Presented by The Rasmussen Group (5:20 p.m. ET Saturday on NBCSN)

Forty cars are entered for the Xfinity Series’ second visit of the year to Iowa Speedway.

Casey Roderick will make his first Xfinity start since 2012, driving the No. 23 car for GMS Racing. Max Tullman will drive the No. 26 for Tullman-Walker Racing, a new team seeking to make its first series start.

With Cup in Pocono, the only driver entered there and at Iowa is Ross Chastain.

Thirty-two Trucks are entered for this event at Pocono Raceway.

Kyle Busch is the only Cup driver entered. He’ll drive the No. 51.

FINAL PRACTICE

With a lap of 174.972 mph, Todd Gilliland topped the charts in final practice for the Overton’s 225 at Chicagoland Speedway with the best speed of the day.

He beat Ben Rhodes (174.222) by .133 seconds.

Justin Haley (173.857 mph), Austin Hill (173.700) and Brett Moffitt (173.422) rounded out the top five.

Johnny Sauter, who had the fastest single lap in the first practice session, posted the quickest 10-lap average of 167.796 mph.

Brian Kaltreider (161.934) brought out the only caution in final practice when he spun harmlessly.

FIRST PRACTICE

Johnny Sauter posted the fastest lap in the first practice session with a speed of 174.160 mph.

He beat Dalton Sargeant (174.031 mph) by .023 seconds.

Rhodes (173.449), Noah Gragson (173.344) and Matt Crafton (172.933) rounded out the top five.

Only one driver logged 10 consecutive laps. Max Tullman posted an average speed o 162.044 mph in the No. 20.
