Kansas Cup race results and points report

Ryan Preece is able to walk away from a torn-up race car after a frightening crash into the inside SAFER barrier at Kansas Speedway.

Denny Hamlin scored his series-high fifth Cup win of the season Thursday night at Kansas Speedway, ending a three-race stretch where Hamlin had finished outside the top 10.

Brad Keselowski finished second and was followed by Martin Truex Jr., Kevin Harvick and Erik Jones.

This is the second straight season for Hamlin with at least five wins. He has won three of the last eight races.

POINTS REPORT

William Byron holds what would be the final playoff spot after finishing 10th in Thursday’s race. Tyler Reddick is the first driver outside a playoff spot, trailing Byron by 10 points. Reddick is followed by Erik Jones (12 points behind Byron) and seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson (18 points behind Byron).
