Denny Hamlin got loose below Kurt Busch on a Lap 270 restart and pinched Busch’s No. 41 Ford into the wall. When Busch came off the wall, he clipped Chase Elliott.
Busch was not able to make repairs and get back on track. Elliott lost three laps in the incident and restarted 24th.
Both are effectively eliminated form the playoffs.
Busch had stayed out on the previous pit stop to start on the front row alongside Erik Jones.
Elliott restarted in the top 10 on two tires.
Busch and Elliott both entered the race below the cutoff line, but showed promise during the race.
Busch led 52 laps prior to the accident. Elliott won Stage 1 and led 16 laps.
Elliott was leading on Lap 231 when the field pitted and the No. 9 was hit with a speeding penalty that put him off sequence and in traffic.
