NASCAR America at 5 p.m. ET: Martinsville preview

Today’s episode of NASCAR America airs from 5 - 6 p.m. ET on NBCSN and provides one last preview of this weekend’s Round of 8 opener at Martinsville Speedway.

Carolyn Manno hosts from Stamford, Connecticut. She is joined by Dale Jarrett in the Charlotte Studio and Jeff Burton and Parker Kligerman from Martinsville.

On today’s show:

  • With the Monster Energy Cup Series Playoff Round of 8 beginning this weekend at Martinsville, some title contenders are favorites while others are dark horses. But all of them have a legit chance of winning and claiming the first ticket to the championship race. Jarrett, Burton and Kligerman will handicap a formidable playoff field.

  • Put more than three dozen cars on a half-mile track, and you’re bound to see tempers boil over. It’s happened a few times in recent years at Martinsville, including last year with the dustup between Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin. We’ll relive some of the biggest drama that’s been produced at this tiny “Paper Clip.”

  • Winners at Martinsville receive a grandfather clock for their efforts. Those clocks do more than tell time; they’re reminders of the importance of making the most of time. In a special essay, Nate Ryan explains why, for the 8 Playoff contenders, time is truly of the essence.
