Almost 35 years after his father Bill Elliott won his first career Cup race at Riverside International Raceway, Chase Elliott scored his first at Watkins Glen International.
Elliott had a furious battle with Martin Truex Jr. that was resolved on the last lap when the No. 78 ran out of gas on the backstretch. Truex was able to coast across the finish line second.
Joe Gibbs teammates Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones rounded out the top five.
Busch had one of the dominant cars until a problem with the fuel filler in the final stop caused him to pit twice.
