RICHMOND, Va. - NASCAR told Cup and Xfinity teams Friday that it will increase penalties for rear suspension violation effective immediately.

The move comes as NASCAR has seen a trend of such penalties, including the top two cars in last weekend’s Xfintiy race and the winning car in last week’s Southern 500 have such violations.

The new penalties make the violation a maximum L1 infraction. The penalties are:

# Encumbered finish

# Loss of 40 driver points (had been 25 points)

# Loss of 40 owner points (had been 25 points)

# $75,000 fine to a Cup crew chief (was $50,000)

# $40,000 fine to a crew chief in the Xfinity Series ($10,000 was minimum)

# Three-race crew chief suspension (had been two)

# Three-race car chief suspension (had not been penalized previously)
