Lost somewhat in Sunday’s celebration of Ryan Blaney‘s first career NASCAR Cup win at Pocono Raceway was his radio difficulties throughout the race.
No, it’s not like he wasn’t able to tune in to his favorite jams or maybe SiriusXM NASCAR Radio while he was driving around the Tricky Triangle.
Rather, this was serious stuff: Blaney’s team could hear him, but he couldn’t hear them or his crew chief.
As a result, Blaney did something that might seem a bit unusual from a guy who’s only 23 years old: he went old school, using ancient hand symbols that used to exist way back in NASCAR’s day, to communicate with his team.
Our NASCAR America crew delved into how a y0ung adult could be so adept at hand signals — and went on to win the race.
