NASCAR America: Erik Jones believes ‘You bring your friends to the race track with you’

In recent weeks, a topic of discussion has been the relationship of NASCAR drivers and if they’re too friendly with each other when not banging fenders on the track.

NBC Sports analyst Steve Letarte expressed such an opinion on the NASCAR on NBC podcast.

The topic was broached again by Cup rookie Erik Jones during a tire test at Daytona International Speedway this week. The Furniture Row Racing driver was asked if he’d talked to Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney about how they handled their own rookie experiences.

“No, not really,” Jones said. “I have to be honest with you, I don’t hang out with the other drivers too much. I kind of do my own thing. I show up at the race track to do my job and that’s kind of always how it’s been. I’ve always lived by the mentality that you bring your friends to the race track with you.”
