Harrison Burton’s K&N car will feature a new look for stock-car numerology

Harrison Burton unveiled a new look for his K&N Pro Series East car that might be as much sponsor-pleasing as eye-catching this weekend at Greenville Pickens Speedway.

The son of NASCAR on NBC analyst Jeff Burton will have a paint scheme on his No. 12 Toyota that moves the number to the left-rear quarter panel, allowing for greater visibility for branding and logos.

In Saturday’s Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150, MDM Motorsports will become the first K&N Series team to try the new placement of the number that became allowable on circuit via a March 9 bulletin from NASCAR. It also is allowed in the Canadian-based Pinty’s Series.

Moving the car number to the rear quarter-panel is optional with no plan to become mandatory.

Permitting the shifting of the number grew out of a series off offseason meetings with K&N team owners.

The practice previously has been permitted for several years in NASCAR’s Mexico-based stock-car series, where it drew positive feedback.

Other series, such as the American Speed Association, also have experimented with moving the number around on their cars to help provide a cleaner look.
