Martin Truex Jr. fastest in final Cup Series practice in Las Vegas

Martin Truex Jr. put up the fastest speed in the final practice session for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Truex, who was also fastest in the first of three practice sessions for the Kobalt 400, posted a speed of 188.613 mph.

The top five was completed by Chase Elliott (188.574), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (188.436), Matt Kenseth (188.258) and pole-sitter Brad Keselowski (188.140).

Jamie McMurray, who was 19th fastest, recorded the most laps in the session with 51.

Ryan Blaney had the best 10-lap average at 185.347 mph. Keselowski was second and Truex third.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will go to a backup car for tomorrow’s race after he made contact with the outside wall in Turn 2 with just under 15 minutes left in the session. Stenhouse will start from the rear after qualifying 29th.
