NASCAR America: New race format gets second test at Atlanta Motor Speedway

NASCAR America analysts Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle and Parker Kligerman discuss how the new three-stage race format will impact this weekend’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Atlanta is a 1.5-mile track, which is similar to a majority of the tracks on the NASCAR schedule.

The race format made its debut at Daytona International Speedway, a 2.5-mile superspeedway that shares characteristic with only Talladega Superspeedway.

“Anybody can run well at Daytona,” Burton said. “I’m not saying anybody can qualify well. … This is when the anxiety happens.”

Said Biffle, “Atlanta is what a lot of the teams look at as the first race of the season. So you know after Atlanta, Las Vegas and Phoenix, you know where you’re going to stack up for the first quarter of the season. That’s your report card for how you’ve done over the winter and how you’ve improved your team.”
