Dale Jarrett and Steve Letarte weigh in on the 2017 format enhancements and why NASCAR hopes to keep the changes flexible during the season.
Stage lengths are still being announced by tracks, but Daytona, Bristol, Dover and Watkins Glen are among the six that have revealed theirs.
“I was hoping to see 20 or 25 percent stages,” Letarte said. “It seems at some races like Las Vegas for instance the stages are very, very long. Almost as long as the third stage or final stage where the race will be determined. I think the stage length will be tweaked as the season goes on ... I already have heartburn on those cautions. What happens when a yellow comes, five, six, seven, eight laps before end of the stage?”
