WHAT WENT RIGHT: Allgaier switched to JR Motorsports in 2016 and returned to the Xfinity Series after two full-time seasons in Sprint Cup (2014 and 2015). … Tied for his highest single-season finish in the Xfinity Series (third place). Also made the inaugural Xfinity Chase and reached the final round. … The biggest difference for Allgaier was major gains in top-5 finishes (13 – had just six each in 2011 through 2013) and top-10s (27 – had 19 in 2012 and 16 in 2013). … Had best Xfinity career single-season performance in average start (8.7) and average finish (9.1).

WHAT WENT WRONG: Allgaier failed to win a race, but his top-5 and top-10 performances made up for that. … His laps led dropped dramatically, from 168 in 2012 and 102 in 2013 to just 34 in 2016.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2017: Allgaier has a great team, resources and teammate (Elliott Sadler). To finish third in his first season in a series that he had not previously raced in for two seasons is quite an accomplishment. He just needs to reach victory lane. Given all he showed in 2016 and how he finished, Allgaier must be considered a potential championship contender in the Xfinity Series in 2017.
