WHAT WENT RIGHT: Won his first premier series race in the August event at Michigan International Speedway after passing Chase Elliott on a late restart … Won the Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway … Led a career-high 132 laps in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway and finished second … Qualified for the Chase for the first time in his third full-time season … Three runner-up finishes … Won twice in the Xfinity Series.

WHAT WENT WRONG: Eliminated from Chase after the first round … Recorded two DNFs (Fontana, Kansas II) … Finished 25th or worse nine times … Was involved in multiple accidents in the August Bristol race before finishing 24th … Did not earn a pole for the second year in a row … Crew chief Chad Johnston was suspended for the first Michigan race for violating NASCAR’s lug nut rule.
