WHAT WENT RIGHT: Won his last premier series race in his last visit to Sonoma Raceway, passing Denny Hamlin on the final corner … Qualified for the Chase in his final season before being eliminated after the first round.

WHAT WENT WRONG: Missed the first eight races due to a back injury sustained prior to the Daytona 500 … Recorded four DNFs (Dover I, Richmond II, Daytona II and Darlington) … Finished 22nd, two laps down in final premier series start at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2017: Will still be at the track in his ownership role at Stewart-Haas Racing but will now spend his free time in other racing series like sprint cars.
