For many race fans, attending an event at Charlotte Motor Speedway is an outstanding experience.

Now, it’s official.

The flagship of the Speedway Motorsports Incorporated empire, CMS – which calls itself the “Greatest Place to See the Race” – has been named “Outstanding Facility of the Year” by the National Speedway Directory and Track Guide.

CMS Executive Director of Operations Shaun Johnson accepted the honor from NSDTG publisher Tim Frost during this week’s Performance Racing Industry convention in Indianapolis.

The award covers all aspects of CMS’s campus, including Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMAX Dragway and The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“Charlotte Motor Speedway has been a longtime innovator in motorsports facility development,” Frost said in a statement. “Charlotte’s wide array of competitive racing circuits with varied surfaces and configurations has transformed the speedway into one of the most entertaining venues in the world.”

CMS is the fourth recipient of the award. Previous winners have been Indianapolis Motor Speedway (2013), National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park (2014) and Daytona International Speedway (2015).

“We are honored to receive the Outstanding Facility of the Year award,” Johnson said. “The entire Charlotte Motor Speedway team works hard to offer a wide variety of fun and excitement for our fans and racers.”
