NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Ryan D. Hess for his third violation of its substance abuse policy.

Hess, who worked with BK Racing in 2016, was first suspended in August 2012 when he worked with MacDonald Motorsports in the Xfinity Series. He was reinstated on Dec. 5, 2012 after finishing NASCAR’s Road to Recovery program.

Hess was then suspended a second time in June 2013 for violating the policy. He was reinstated in March 2014.

NASCAR has also reinstated crew member Michael Casto following his completion of the Road to Recovery program.

A member of Front Row Motorsports’ No. 38 team, Casto was suspended in August for violating the substance abuse policy.

This story has been updated to reflect that Hess has been suspended three times. It originally stated it was his second.
