Gatorade athletes wish Jimmie Johnson good luck at Homestead

Jimmie Johnson’s run for a historic seventh championship has garnered attention beyond the NASCAR garage.

Gatorade, one of Johnson’s partners, has released a YouTube video (see above) featuring some of the biggest names in other sports wishing Johnson well at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will battle Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, and Joey Logano for the 2016 championship on NBC.

The video includes not only fellow Gatorade athletes but a few who have also celebrated championships in their respective sport.

Among those are Derek Jeter, who won five World Series titles with the New York Yankees, as well as Peyton Manning, who retired from the National Football League after winning a second Super Bowl earlier this year.

Gold medalists and tennis champion Serena Williams is also featured, as is gold medalist and U.S. Women’s World Cup champion, Abby Wambach.

Johnson’s reach outside of NASCAR also includes four consecutive ESPY “Best Driver” awards from 2008-11, in addition to being the first racecar driver to earn Male Athlete of the Year from The Associated Press in 2009.
