When you tune in Sunday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship-deciding Ford EcoBoost 400 on NBC, you may want to bring a second TV set into the room.
While NBC will air the actual race itself from green to checkered flag, NBCSN will offer supplementary coverage during the race with “Hot Pass,” exclusively devoted to all four championship qualifiers: six-time champion Jimmie Johnson, defending series champ Kyle Busch and first-time championship hopefuls Joey Logano and Carl Edwards.
“Hot Pass” will begin Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET and be co-hosted by Leigh Diffey and Parker Kligerman. It also will be available online and via the NBC Sports App.
Coverage will include multi-window displays, in-car cameras and continuous in-car audio, on-air graphics that will highlight point differentials and field changes throughout the race between all four drivers, in-depth profiles of the four competitors and a plethora of race facts and up-to-the-minute statistics.
“With NASCAR Hot Pass, you won’t miss a move from the four Championship drivers,” NBC Sports motorsports producer Rich O’Connor said. “It provides fans with an inside look at the strategy, communication and pressure felt by the Championship Four drivers.”
Last year’s dual coverage of the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship, on NBC and NBCSN, averaged 7.64 million viewers and was the most-watched NASCAR season finale since NBC presented the championship event in 2005.
