After a brief absence from the cockpit, Cole Whitt will return in the Xfinity Series this weekend driving for TriStar Motorsports at Phoenix International Raceway.

Whitt will drive the team’s No. 14 Toyota in his first Xfinity Series race since 2013. He made 15 starts that year for TriStar.

Whitt had started in 26 Sprint Cup races for Premium Motorsports this season, the last coming in the October race at Kansas Speedway.

“I’m looking forward to being back in the seat at TriStar Motorsports,” said Whitt in a press release. “It’s great to have the opportunity to continue and expand our relationship with Rinnai. We are looking forward to having them on the car in Phoenix along with RTIC Coolers and Speed Stick.”

Whitt last competed in the Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville.

In 51 Xfinity starts, Whitt has four top fives, all coming in 2012. In 112 Sprint Cup starts, Whitt has never finished in the top 10. His average finish is 30.1.

The Ticket Galaxy 200 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday on NBCSN.
