A total of 41 cars and drivers are on the preliminary entry list for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.
All 41 seats are filled, but one driver and team will be going home early as only 40 cars will make the race.
This is the second race of the Round of 8 in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. One more race, next week at Phoenix, remains to finalize the four-driver field that will battle for the 2016 season championship on Nov. 20 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Jimmie Johnson, who won for the ninth time at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday, is the points leader heading into Texas. Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth are tied for second, each driver being five points behind Johnson.
