Matt Kenseth picks the perfect time to earn his first pole of the season in the Round of 12 even though it was barely over his teammate Kyle Busch after Joe Gibbs Racing dominated qualifying.

The final Sprint Cup practice session at Kansas Speedway ended with Kurt Busch, a Chase driver, losing a tire and spinning while exiting Turn 4. The No. 41 Chevrolet slid down the track before plowing into the frontstretch grass.

Busch had the third-best speed in the session and had qualified 15th for Sunday’s race. But Busch will have to start from the rear with a backup car.

Matt Kenseth was fastest in the session with top speed of 186.361 mph.

Filling out the top five in the session was Kenseth, Kyle Larson (185.842), Kurt Busch (185.797), Chase Elliott (185.752) and Kyle Busch (185.535).

Kurt Busch recorded the most laps in the session with 58.

Kevin Harvick had the best 10-lap average at 183.740 mph. Tony Stewart had the second best at 183.490 mph.
