The last caution of the Aug. 6 Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen International will be the only one anyone will remember.
On Lap 60 of the race, the No. 70 of Derrike Cope slowed to a crawl on the backstretch and missed the inner loop. It was then that a large plume of black smoke erupted from the engine compartment of the car.
It turned out that excessive heat generated by a broken caliper melted the bead on his right-front tire and caused the fabric in the sidewall to deteriorate, resulting in the explosion.
