NASCAR penalized John Hunter Nemechek 10 points Thursday, putting his chances of advancing in the Camping World Truck Series Chase in jeopardy.
Nemehek falls from fourth to seventh in the eight-driver Chase field with the penalty. He now has 2,020 points and is ahead of only Daniel Hemric, who has 2,005 points. The top six will advance to the second round. Saturday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the second of three in the opening round.
NASCAR penalized Nemechek when post-race height measurements were outside NASCAR’s tolerance after his ninth-place finish last weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Crew chief Gere Kennon was fined $6,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31. The team also lost 10 owner points.
NEMCO Motorsports is reviewing if to appeal the penalty.
