JOLIET, Ill. - About a quarter of the 40-car field in today’s Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway will have gold and teal steering wheels to promote pediatric and ovarian cancer awareness.

September is national ovarian cancer awareness month.

The steering wheels, plus replicas of Martin Truex Jr.'s Southern 500 winning steering wheel will be auctioned beginning Sept. 29. Proceeds will go to the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, which supports cancer research initiatives specific to ovarian and childhood cancers.

Drivers who will have special steering wheels with gold and teal in today’s race are: Kevin Harvick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Danica Patrick, Matt Kenseth, Casey Mears, Clint Bowyer, Alex Bowman, David Ragan and Truex.

Several drivers used the steering wheel last weekend at Richmond.

Truex’s girlfriend, Sherry Pollex, overcame ovarian cancer and has focused her efforts in helping those suffering from it and children who suffer from cancer.
