Austin Dillon laid down the fastest lap in qualifying Friday at Richmond International Raceway at 119.665 mph to win the pole for the Virginia 529 College Savings 250.

Dillon will lead the field to the green flag for the first time this year alongside Alex Bowman, who is driving the No. 88 for JR Motorsports. Bowman clocked in second at 119.633 mph and said his missed opportunity at the pole was due to driver error as he hit the wall.

Bowman’s teammate, Justin Allgaier, will start third at 119.168 mph with Erik Jones (119.027 mph), and Blake Koch (118.964 mph) rounding out the top five. Point leader Elliott Sadler will start eighth with a lap of 118.499 mph.

“I’m just proud of all the work that these guys put in and put a lot of work into myself getting to this track,” Dillon told NBCSN. “I’ve qualified good here in the past, I’ve qualified second here before but not gotten a pole. Hopefully, we can hang on to have a good run tonight ... It’s cool. I never thought to get my first pole in the Xfinity Series this year at a place like Richmond.”
