As Elliott Sadler talked to NBCSN’s Krista Voda, Kyle Petty and Dale Jarrett about his victory in Saturday’s Xfinity race at Darlington Raceway, he had to stop the interview and take a phone call.
It was from Dale Earnhardt Jr., co-owner of JR Motorsports and Sadler’s boss.
Sadler took the call shortly after saying in his interview that his victory was “for Dale Jr. and what he’s going through right now.”
Shortly after that, Sadler was handed the phone as he was being asked a question by Jarrett.
“Hold on a second,” Sadler said on TV as he took the call.
“Hey brother!” Sadler said to Earnhardt, who revealed Friday he will miss the rest of the Sprint Cup season because of a concussion. “How about that? I can’t say that on TV, but yes sir! That’s for you, my man!
“I’m going to call you back in a little bit, and we’re going to celebrate.”
Later, Sadler was asked what Earnhardt said to him that he couldn’t say on TV.
Sadler couldn’t say but gave a hint.
“Any cool exciting four-letter word that you can think of at the top of your lungs, hey, you all know him just like I do,” Sadler said. “He’s not shy about showing a lot of excitement. He’s our biggest fan, to be honest with you. … He needed something to cheer about and we were able to give that to him today.”
