Kyle Larson’s Darlington car brings back first Target paint scheme

Kyle Larson

After this year Chip Ganassi Racing long-time sponsor, Target, will leave the Verizon IndyCar Series.

Before that, Ganassi will use Kyle Larson’s car in the Sprint Cup Series to celebrate its 26-year relationship with the store franchise.

For the Sept. 4 Southern 500, Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet will bear the very first Target paint scheme Ganassi used in IndyCar.

The paint scheme was driven Eddie Cheever, who scored two podiums in the 1990 CART season and finished eighth in the Indianapolis 500.

Larson, who will make his 100th Sprint Cup start in the Southern 500, noted that the paint scheme is three years older than he is.

Chip Ganassi’s other car, the No. 1 driven by Jamie McMurray, will use a paint scheme driven by Bill Elliott in 1997.
