Martin Truex Jr. fastest in opening Sprint Cup Series practice at Watkins Glen

The future of Furniture Row Racing is becoming more concrete after Martin Truex Jr. signed a two-year extension and Erik Jones is expected to leave the Xfinity Series to drive for the Colorado-based team in 2017.

Martin Truex Jr. was fastest in the first of two practice sessions Friday afternoon at Watkins Glen International with a lap of 126.883 mph.

All 40 cars entered in the Cheez-It 355 made it on track during the 1-hour, 25-minute session with Carl Edwards running the most laps at 32. There were no major incidents in the session.

The top five were Truex, Denny Hamlin (126.343 mph), Casey Mears (125.896 mph), Carl Edwards (125.654 mph), and Kyle Busch (125.643 mph).
