First it was rain, now it’s fog.
The Pennsylvania 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race, which was postponed Sunday due to rain, was red-flagged Monday afternoon because of a heavy layer of fog that rolled across Pocono Raceway.
While the frontstretch is fairly clear, Turns 1 and 2 were obscured by the foggy conditions.
NASCAR has stopped the race with 22 laps remaining. The No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford of Sprint Cup rookie and defending NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Chris Buescher is in the lead.
It’s been 118 races since Front Row’s most recent victory (David Ragan at Talladega Superspeedway in May 2013). Because Buescher is 31st in the points standings, a win wouldn’t clinch a provisional Chase for the Sprint Cup berth (drivers must be ranked in the top 30).
NASCAR is waiting on whether the fog would clear to resume and finish the race. However, radar shows a large band of (what else?) rain storms closing in on the racetrack.
