In one of the more unique aspects of this weekend’s activities for NASCAR’s annual return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a retired Navy SEAL will be honored by track and civic officials.
The event will take place Friday morning at 10 a.m. ET, when IMS President Doug Boles, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett and Crown Royal brand director Jim Ruane will dye the downtown Indianapolis canal the color purple in honor of retired Navy SEAL Lt. Jason Redman.
According to an IMS media release, Redman is the winner of the annual Crown Royal “Your Hero’s Name Here” program, which “honors past and present men and women of our nation’s military, who have served our country with honor, devotion, and perseverance.”
Redman survived serious battle injuries in 2007 and has gone on to write a book about his life, is an in-demand public speaker and also formed a non-profit organization called Wounded Wear. You can learn more about him at his website, SofSpoken.com.
The 23rd Crown Royal Presents the Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at the Brickyard will be this Sunday.
