AJ Allmendinger showed his frustration following a crash during the Quaker State 400 in Kentucky.

A.J. Allmendinger’s left thumb is OK after a heavy impact at Kentucky Speedway, but his JTG Daugherty Racing team will slightly scale back its schedule this week.

A team spokesperson said Allmendinger’s No. 47 Chevrolet won’t be at a Tuesday-Wednesday test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway because the team will be regrouping to focus on building cars after a rough stretch. Allmendinger has crashed in two of the past four races and hasn’t finished in the top 10 in two months.

He finished 36th in Saturday’s Quaker State 400 after being caught in two wrecks, the second of which resulted in his left hand being wrapped in a splint during a visit to the track’s care center. Allmendinger said his thumb was hurting after being jammed in the steering wheel, but the spokesperson said an X-ray revealed the thumb was fine.

“It was a big hit,” Allmendinger said Saturday. “I’ve taken a lot of big hits lately and it’s getting a little bit old.”
