Rookies Ryan Blaney and Chase Elliott crashed on a restart, bringing out the caution on Lap 89 of Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway.

Blaney and Elliott were racing three-wide for sixth when Blaney, running in the middle, got loose and they made contact. That sent both cars spinning. They each backed into the wall.

Elliott restarted fourth but had to slow on the backstretch when Martin Truex Jr. came up the track in his path. That allowed Blaney and Greg Biffle to get underneath Elliott as they headed toward Turn 3.

“There’s really not enough room,’' Elliott told NBCSN of being three-wide. “I felt I was about the top of the black (on the groove) without getting into the mess. I tried to give as much room as possible. That’s racing, I guess.’'

Blaney told NBCSN: “We got put in a bad spot. The package is really hard to race three wide. Got loose. Unfortunately took the 24 out.”
