Jimmie Johnson spun in Turn 4 on the Lap 32 restart and backed into the outside wall Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway. Johnson drove his car to the garage for repairs. He returned 42 laps later.
Johnson had restarted ninth when he had the incident.
This was his second accident of the weekend. Johnson hit the wall in practice Friday and had to go to a backup car for the race.
Johnson has failed to finish two of the previous four races because of accidents. He opened the season with two wins in the first five races (Atlanta and Auto Club Speedway) but has finished 15th or worse in six of the eight races before Kentucky. He’s fallen from fourth to ninth in the points during that time.
This will mark the first time in six Sprint Cup starts at Kentucky that his No. 48 Chevrolet didn’t finish in the top 10.
