With a lap of 187.448 mph, Carl Edwards was again at the top of the leaderboard in the final Sprint Cup Series practice at Kentucky Speedway on Friday evening. Martin Truex Jr. (186.528) was second fastest with Kyle Larson (186.387), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (186.091), and Kyle Busch (185.573) completing the top five.

Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch both found trouble during the session. Hamlin ended up 11th fastest at 185.733 mph but scraped the Turn 4 wall after telling his Joe Gibbs Racing team he was riding the splitter too much.

Busch ended the session in the garage after he got loose in Turn 3, hit the wall and then spun towards the entrance of pit road. A lap earlier, Busch had gotten loose in the same corner. He was 15th in practice at 185.573 mph.

The No. 41 team has decided to go to their backup car.
