Jack rabbit loses in tangle with ‘Huge Bugs Bunny fan’ Kyle Busch

A jack rabbit didn't survive a run-in with Kyle Busch's race car during practice at Sonoma Raceway.

One thing was certain after Friday’s second Sprint Cup practice session at Sonoma Raceway -- rabbit stew likely was not in Kyle Busch’s dinner plans.

The defending Toyota/Save Mart 350 winner and reigning Sprint Cup champion went from practicing one minute to inadvertently going rabbit hunting, striking a wayward and large jack rabbit that crossed the path of Busch’s Toyota Camry.

“That sucks, RIP,” Busch said over his team radio shortly after impact. NASCAR put the practice session briefly under yellow caution so that the “damage” could be cleaned up.

Sure, laugh if you want, but this wound up being a not so funny matter.

The rabbit was obliterated, while Busch’s car suffered significant damage.

“It tore off a little bit of the brake ducts and stuff like that, and the hoses and things are not where they’re supposed to be,” Busch said on Fox Sports 1. “That thing came out of nowhere.

“I seen it for a second, and I moved a little bit right and said, ‘Keep going, keep going.’ He stopped and turned, we looked eye to eye and then it was over.

“That was no fun. I am a Bugs Bunny fan, a huge Bugs Bunny fan, so that’s not what we intended to do today.”
