NASCAR penalized one Camping World Series Truck team and fined a driver for infractions last weekend at Iowa Speedway.

NASCAR penalized John Hunter Nemechek 10 points, docked his team 10 owners points, fined crew chief Farris Kennon Jr. $6,000 and placed Kennon on probation through Dec. 31 after Nemechek’s vehicle failed post-race inspection. Nemechek’s truck failed post-race heights.

Nemechek has a win and is in a spot for a Chase position. He’s one of four Chase-eligible drivers with a win. The penalty drops him behind Johnny Sauter, who also has one win, in the points. Should there be more than eight drivers with at least a victory before the playoffs begin Sept. 23 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, then the tiebreaker (points) will be used. If there are not more than eight drivers with a win by then, Nemechek will make the Chase.

The team issued a statement:

“We, NEMCO Motorsports, are fully aware of our position and why this decision was made by NASCAR. We will continue to respect the process. While we respect and accept NASCAR’s decision, we, NEMCO Motorsports, are, currently internally, reviewing the opportunity to present our case to the appeals committee. No decision has been made to appeal.”

Also, NASCAR fined driver Caleb Holman $5,000 and placed him on probation through Dec. 31 for exiting his vehicle and approaching the racing surface before being attended to by the track safety team.
