NASCAR driver Mike Wallace thanked family, friends and fans for their support in a Facebook post two days after an attack that sent him to the hospital and led to the arrests of three individuals.
Wallace also posted an updated photo of himself.
Wallace stated in a previous Facebook post that he was beaten after attending a Rascal Flatts concert June 17 at PNC Music Pavilion.
Wallace, the brother of NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace and former NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace, stated in a Facebook post that he was “knocked out” and had the “crap beat out of me” after an incident in the parking lot after the concert.
Kenny Wallace stated on Twitter that Mike Wallace’s daughter Lindsay tried to shield him after he was knocked out and stated that she was kicked in the ribs.
A report by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police stated that the cause is under further investigation. It also stated that “the listed victims were kicked and punched several times in the head, face and stomach by the listed suspects following a verbal altercation on 6/17/2016 at about 10:45 p.m.”
Mike Wallace told WSOC that the incident started after he asked the individuals about the show.
Wallace said: “This same group that we encountered earlier, which was pleasant and having a good time earlier, they were at the back of their truck, plus numerous other amounts of people were around them. I said, ‘Hey man, how are you doing? How was the concert?’ I didn’t hear much more and all of a sudden the one guy starts screaming in the back of the truck, ‘Hey everybody, shut the (expletive) up, shut up!
“I said, ‘Hey man, what’s the problem? That’s all I remember. The next thing I know that I remember is getting punched in the face. It happened so quickly that when they did hit me, it knocked me out. I was on the ground. I could feel myself getting beat, but I couldn’t feel the intensity.
“When I woke up, I see my daughter laying on the ground, which is devastating for a father.”
Wallace’s daughter, Lindsey Wallace Van Wingerden told WSOC: “It scares us to think we can’t even go to a concert together without someone going to attack you or what’s going to happen next.”
Wallace and his daughter were treated and released from a hospital.
Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office reported it arrested three individuals in relation to the incident. Paul Lucas, 29, was charged with misdemeanor assault on a female. Nathan Lucas, 22, was charged with misdemeanor assault. Randolph Magnum, 24, was charged with misdemeanor assault. All three have a July 22 court date.
Mike Wallace has made 806 starts across the Sprint Cup, Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. He has four Xfinity victories and five in the Camping World Truck Series. His most recent two NASCAR starts were in the 2015 season openers for the Sprint Cup and Xfinity series at Daytona International Speedway.
