Erik Jones posted the fastest lap in the opening Xfinity practice at Michigan International Speedway. The Friday session was delayed more than 10 minutes when a groundhog got on track and eluded track safety workers. It eventually was caught and the track announced the groundhog had been relocated on the property.

Jones led the way with a lap of 192.092 mph. He was followed by Ty Dillon (191.882 mph), Joey Logano (191.714), Paul Menard (191.296) and Kyle Busch (191.215).
