Danica Patrick collides with the rear bumper of Tony Stewart's car in the Axelta 400.

Tony Stewart crashed on Lap 93 of Monday’s Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway, collecting teammate Danica Patrick and Landon Cassill.

Patrick and Cassill continued. Stewart later returned and placed 34th.

The incident happened in Turn 1 after a restart as Stewart ran between Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Larson. They passed and Stewart’s car got loose, sending it toward the wall and into Patrick’s car on the outside lane.

Stewart, who missed the first eight races of the season, is seeking to climb into the top 30 in points to be eligible for a Chase spot should he win a race before the Chase begins. Stewart entered the race 60 points out of 30th in the drivers standings.

Stewart is now 71 points out of 30th place in the standings.

Stewart had spent much of Monday’s race in the top 10 and been comfortable with his car before the incident. He had been 10th at the start of the restart and fell back to 15th before losing control of his car and wrecking.

Twelve races remain after today’s event before the Chase begins.
