Something finally went right for Kyle Larson in a NASCAR race.

After 53 laps, the Pocono Green 250 was halted due to rain. 1 hour and 35 minutes later NASCAR called the race, giving Larson the victory in the first Xfinity Series race at Pocono Raceway.

“I didn’t really think I would win today,” Larson said. “But it worked out, we had good pit strategy to get us in position and had some good restarts there with Elliott Sadler pushing me.”

Larson led a total of 27 laps, including the 19 right before it began raining. The skies opened up just as pole-sitter Erik Jones had reached the back bumper of Larson, who was on older tires after only pitting for fuel on Lap 32.

“I could judge him in my mirror,” Larson said. “We were probably going to be racing really hard in the next lap or half a lap, maybe. Happy it started downpouring when it did.”

The win is Larson’s first in a NASCAR national series this year. His last win came in the 2015 Xfinity finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

After a May filled with close calls at Dover, in the Xfinity race at Charlotte and in the Sprint All-Star Race, Larson already has two wins since Tuesday, the last day of the month. Larson won a USAC National Midget race in Indiana.

“These rain races, a lot of it is luck,” Larson said. “I haven’t had much this year, let alone my NASCAR career. So it’s nice that it finally came together for me.”

The top five was completed by Jones, Ty Dillon, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.

Larson led Erik Jones, Ty Dillon, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.

HOW KYLE LARSON WON: After only pitting for fuel on Lap 32, Larson took the lead for good on a Lap 44 restart and stayed ahead of pole-sitter Erik Jones long enough before the rain came.

WHO HAD A GOOD RACE: Ty Dillon finished third for his fourth top five of the season … Kyle Busch led 16 laps and finished fourth, his worse finish in seven Xfinity starts this season … JJ Yeley finished 13th for his third top-15 finish of the season … Brandon Jones finished eighth, giving him six top 10s this year and two in a row.

WHO HAD A BAD RACE: Darrell Wallace Jr. started last due to spinning in qualifying and could only get to 16th before the rain began … Justin Allgaier got loose in Turn 1 during the first restart on Lap 20 and pancaked the outside wall. Allgaier finished 39th, 33 laps down …. Ryan Sieg slid into the outside wall after making contact with Ryan Reed on Lap 24. Sieg was then penalized for his crew being over the pit wall too soon. Sieg finished 29th … Reed got loose in Turn 1 on Lap 39 and hit the outside wall. The No. 16 then came down the track and crashed into Jeremy Clements. Reed finished 33rd, Clements finished 31st. During the rain delay there was an altercation in the garage between the teams of Reed and Sieg.

NOTABLE: This is the first Xfinity race this year Kyle Busch hasn’t finished in the top two … Sprint Cup regulars have won nine of the 12 Xfinity Series race this year.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I don’t care how you win, it’s always rewarding when you do get that win.” – Kyle Larson
