NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick and wife Linda have formed a new not-for-profit charity called the Hendrick Family Foundation.

The new Foundation consolidates the philanthropic efforts of the Hendrick organization, including Hendrick Motorsports and Hendrick Automotive Group.

It also will absorb the Hendrick Marrow Program, founded in 1997 shortly after Rick Hendrick was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

Hendrick has been in remission since 1999, and the Marrow Program has raised more than $15 million in partnership with Be The Match (a relationship that will continue with the new Foundation) for patients needing marrow or cord blood transplants.

The new Foundation’s first fundraising event is already sold out. “Learn Live Hope” will be held May 22 at The Fillmore in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The event will benefit Be The Match, Levine Children’s Hospital and Together We Feed Charlotte. A similar event last year raised more than $1.6 million to support a number of charitable organizations.

“We know that people working together can make an incredible difference for our neighbors and for our communities as a whole,” Hendrick said in a media release. “It takes all of us.

“Our family has been humbled by the support we’ve received over the years. We have an amazing extended family that continues to inspire us with their generosity and passion for giving back. That passion motivates us every single day, and we’re excited about this next step.”
