Carl Edwards crashes down the back stretch with 41 laps to go in the AAA 400 Drive for Autism after making contact with Kyle Larson.

Carl Edwards’ hopes of winning Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive For Autism Sprint Cup race came crashing to an end prematurely at Dover International Speedway.

Shortly after a major multicar wreck brought about a red flag, racing resumed on Lap 359. Edwards was battling Kyle Larson for position in the top five on Lap 360 when they made contact.

“I just want to be out there racing,” Edwards told Fox Sports 1. “I thought we were going to win this thing. ... Kyle just got into me, I guess. It happened pretty quick. It’s nice of Kyle to say something (Larson apologized to Edwards’ team over his radio).”

Edwards spun and hit the retaining wall hard, while Larson, seeking his first Cup victory, continued on and finished second after furiously challenging winner Matt Kenseth in the closing laps.
