Kevin Harvick, who won at Dover last fall, posted the fastest lap in Friday’s Sprint Cup practice session, which featured a three-car crash that collected Tony Stewart.

Stewart, Danica Patrick and Jamie McMurray were involved in the incident that started when Patrick’s car dumped oil after what the team said was a gear failure. Stewart and McMurray lost control when they ran through the oil and hit the Turn 4 wall hard. All were evaluated and released from the infield care center. Each had to go to a backup car and made it back on track before the session ended.

Harvick led the way with a lap of 165.145 mph.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has not qualified better than 16th at a non-restrictor-plate track, was second on the speed chart with a lap of 164.707 mph. He was followed by Kyle Busch (164.489 mph), Carl Edwards (164.144) and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (163.815).
