When NASCAR teams arrive for this weekend’s triple-header of racing at Dover International Speedway, they’re going to see some significant changes.
Speedway officials announced Monday in a media release that the track has:
* Added a total of 479 feet of Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) barrier along the backstretch and into the entrance to Turn 3 on the one-mile, high-banked concrete oval. The SAFER barrier stands 40 inches high and is placed 5.5 feet apart.
That breaks down to 78 feet of SAFER barrier on the existing inside backstretch wall, as well as 401 feet in front of a new, steel post inside wall and new stretch of concrete in front of the grassy area at the entrance to Turn 3.
* Because NASCAR Sprint Cup race day fields have been reduced from 43 to 40 cars, each pit stall has been expanded by two additional feet. Each stall is now 34 feet in length and remains 16 feet wide.
* Approximately 550 feet of new asphalt has also been added along the area behind pit road, from the Sprint Cup garage entrance to the start-finish line.
