With two wins, Jimmie Johnson is the only Hendrick Motorsports driver to reach victory lane in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2016.
But Johnson is not the No. 1 driver at HMS when it comes to top-10 finishes after Saturday’s GoBowling 400 at Kansas Speedway.
Rookie Chase Elliott now has the most top-10 finishes of HMS drivers, with Saturday’s race being his seventh in the first 11 races this season.
Johnson has the second-most top-10s with six. Dale Earnhardt Jr. has five and Kasey Kahne has three.
After season-worst finishes of 37th at Daytona and 38th at Las Vegas, Elliott has four top-10 finishes (three also being top-five showings) in his last five starts.
Here’s the list of Elliott’s top-10 finishes in 2016:
Atlanta: 8th
Phoenix: 8th
Fontana: 6th
Texas: 5th
Bristol: 4th
Talladega: 5th
Kansas: 9th
Other finishes: Daytona (37th), Atlanta (38th), Martinsville (20th) and Richmond (12th).
One other note about Elliott: He’s ranked fifth among all Cup drivers in top-10s. Points leader Kevin Harvick, Kansas winner Kyle Busch and brother Kurt Busch all have nine top-10 finishes, while Carl Edwards has eight.
As for the overall Sprint Cup standings, Johnson is fourth, Earnhardt is ninth, Elliott is 11th and Kahne is 18th.
