Kurt Busch aggressively pushed on the bumper of Jimmie Johnson and ultimately set off an enormous chain reaction, involving 21 cars, on Lap 160.

With 27 laps left in the GEICO 500, Kurt Busch turned Jimmie Johnson on the frontstretch, which began a chain reaction that involved 21 cars in the biggest crash of the 188-lap race.

The crash collected Jamie McMurray, Austin Dillon, Regan Smith, Danica Patrick, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ryan Blaney, Paul Menard, Ryan Newman, Johnson, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, David Gilliland, Brian Scott, AJ Allmendinger, Martin Truex Jr., Regan Smith, Aric Almirola, Greg Biffle and Michael McDowell.

KURT BUSCH: “I didn’t feel like I hit (Johnson) all that much and the next thing I know he was sideways. It reminded me of the qualifying races, the 150’s down in Daytona where he got sideways getting into Turn 1.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON: “The easier they are to drive compared to Daytona the more aggressive we are going to be. The No. 41 was bump drafting me and caused that wreck and just kept hitting me and finally ended up taking me out in the process. That was aggressive there. ... This aero package doesn’t respond well to it for starters, but he got me coming out of the tri-oval. He got me going in and through and I was trying to stay on top of it and finally he got me once too hard and off I went.”

PAUL MENARD: “The No. 48 just came across our nose and then the car was pretty beat up, but we could still make some runs. Not nothing great, but I’m not sure what happened at the end. Somebody turned the No. 43 I think, typical plate racing.”
