Beginning with this weekend’s Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, JJ Yeley will be the driver of the No. 44 car “until further decisions are made,” TriStar Motorsports announced Wednesday.

Yeley replaces David Starr after finishing 12th last weekend at Richmond International Raceway. Starr, who joined TriStar as a full-time driver in 2015, competed in the first seven races this season. Starr’s best finish was 17th at Bristol Motor Speedway and he is currently 20th in the point standings.

“We have made significant changes in an effort to improve our overall program,” said team owner Mark Smith in a press release. “With our commitment to our sponsor, we felt that an immediate change was necessary.”

The No. 44 will continue to be sponsored by Zachry Construction.

“We have every confidence in the team we have assembled and we will continue to pursue our competitive goals,” Smith said. “We wish David all the best in his career and we will announce further plans as they are confirmed.”

Yeley has made 225 starts in the Xfinity Series since 2004, but has not recorded a win. He has 15 top-five finishes with a best result of second on two occasions, the most recent coming in 2006 at Kentucky Speedway.
